We are a group of physicists, atmospheric scientists, applied mathematicians and data scientists working to understand the fundamental mechanisms of the climate system using observations, simulation, and pencil-and-paper theory. We are fans of incisive idealization and share the tools we build to answer our questions. We are based at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory but collaborate with groups across Columbia, the US, and around the world.
Graduate students in the group are normally pursing a PhD in either the Department of Applied Physics and Applied Math or in Earth and Environmental Sciences. Beyond project-specific postdoc opportunities we host postdoctoral fellows pursuing their own research from the NOAA Climate and Global Change Postdoctoral Program, as well as through programs at Lamont and the Climate School at Columbia (applications are due each fall). Prospective students and postdocs are welcome to get in touch to discuss possible projects and funding.
