Using the espresso robot

Here's what you need to know about using the espresso robot in Oceanography 205. For more information see the manufacturer's web site.

Email Robert Pincus with any questions.

At some point I'll set out a box and ask for money to pay for supplies but, until then, please enjoy and say hi when you come by for a cup.

Making coffee

Push the buttons in the top row for an espresso or an Americano. If the robot is sleeping, press once to wake it up, and a second time to make the espresso.

"2x" means "make two drinks in a row", not "make mine a double"

  • Fetch the milk carafe from the fridge under the espresso machine. Pull the end of the plastic tube up and off the drop tray and plug it into the side of the milk carafe
  • Use the buttons in the second row to make a cappuccino (some steamed milk) or a latte (more steamed milk)
  • Take the plastic tube out of the milk carafe, plug it into the left side of the drip tray, and put the milk back in the fridge

Caring for the robot

The robot may ask to clean its own milk system. Put a cup under the coffee spout and touch the check mark.

More coffee beans are (hopefully) in the bottom right hand cabinet. Let Robert know if not.

Water goes in the tank on the left side of the machine. Lining up the tank can be fussy - it goes all the way towards the wall and into the machine.

Espresso grounds come out the right side of the machine. Compost, anyone? Else they go in the trash in the hall.

Keep things clean, of course.
